NEWZROUND- Olympic Special

I’ve had a bit of a break over the last week from most of my endeavours, but just so everyone’s aware of what’s going on:

Space Wars is about a quarter of the way in, here’s a page with MechaGoliath vs Laser Skeleton. I’m still working out some of the finer points of the presentation though.
Banal Pig 5 is also in progress, with 1 completed page and about 12 in progress, and i’ve got a strong idea of what the finished product will be with this one, the question is whether i’ll ever be able to afford to print it…
I’m also planning on entering the Observer/ Jonathan Cape Graphic Short Story Competition this time around, so I’m working on something for that but i’m keeping the details of that under wraps to prevent any industrial espionage.
Don’t forget to check out my original comic art for sale, along with star wars and other poster prints and I can draw you a one hour pic for £20.

Lastly, i’ve put my copy of the mega-anthology Kramers Ergot Volume 7 on ebay, it’s now out of print and hard to find- why not have a bid?

Newzround- Banal Pig 5 Previews

‘Sup pig lovers? As usual, i’ve got a few things on the boil at the moment- Space Wars, a top secret 4 page full colour strip and Banal Pig 5 (as well as Untitled Ape’s Untitled Adventure, which I get round to when I can), none of which I can afford to print at the moment, but maybe one day. On that subject, I might well have to go back to working for The Man fairly soon as buying a house and earning virtually no money are not very compatible, and we’re buying a house. Anyway, here’s some panels from Banal Pig 5:

They are previews from Fez Man, Irate Robot and Jolly Bear in various states of completeness, i’ve currently got about 12 pages on the go from BP5, but i’ve got a good idea of the shape of the whole thing, which will be a bit different from previous banal pigs as it has an central story arc running through all the strips.

More newz soon, please feel free to commission something or buy stuff from me in the meantime (apologies for these pathetic requests for money, hopefully things will pick up soon and i will regain my dignity).

p.s. not many Star Wars prints left, get yours now if you want one.

p.p.s. sorry again

Star Wars and upcoming things

Here’s a few panels from my piece for the upcoming Star Wars-themed show May the 4th Be With You, it’s watercolour and pen on paper and features some of my favourite random Star Wars characters slagging “you” off for some reason (it kind of makes sense when you see the whole thing)- here’s the pathetic robot bounty hunter IG88 and Bib Fortuna (sorry for the slightly dodgy pic quality- i’ll show it in full after the show). It’ll be for sale for a very reasonable price, and i am also planning to do a digitally coloured poster print from the line art, to be released after the show if there’s demand for it.

As you will hopefully be aware, it’s the Leeds Alternative Comics Fair 4 again a week on Saturday, the 28th April, so please come along and see us, and why not buy my new limited edition Christopher Wren foldy comic, plus posters, badges and the rest of my wonderful back catalogue, along with the new Comix Reader 3?

I will also be peddling wares at the Handmade and Craft Fair in Leeds on May 12th, so it’s a busy couple of weeks for old Stevie T.

And speaking of peddling wares, don’t forget about the CRAZY COMICS SALE until the end of April which has proved quite popular so far, the one hour drawings available for just £20, and my services as animal portraitist, and i’m open for other commissions for extremely reasonable rates so please email me (banalpig@googlemail.com) for details.

Oh yeah, i’ve started Banal Pig 5 as well, and i’m very excited about it. If only it didnt take so damn long to make comics…

Covered, etc

in the spirit of the previous posts, here’s another black and white drawing for you, posted here as i like it in black and white, but perhaps lacks a bit of pizazz next to the full colour original. The good news is you can view it in glorious colour over on the magnificent covered blog, where i used a 64-colour cmyk comic colouring grid that i got from somewhere, and it seems that it matches the original pretty well, so i’m gonna use it again to colour my upcoming poster for the 4th Leeds Alternative comics fair, details to follow very soon. I’m also working on an ingenious folding minicomic for LACF4, so i’ll keep you posted on that too.
Elsewhere, i’m back on with Untitled Ape’s Epic Adventure and as i’ve got more time in my recently acquired freelance status (gizza job/ some money/ buy a comic or a drawing) and i’m aiming to finish it and hopefully get it published this year, which may be a pipedream as its probably a third of the way through, and it took me a year to get this far, but we’ll see. What’s this blog for if not for me to be hopelessly inaccurate in predicting what i’m doing next?

One hour drawing, Falcor!

I’ve updated my Buy a One-Hour Drawing page, to feature a couple more of the ones i’ve done recently. This was a Valentine’s Day present (good work Johnny Loveheart) and features that ugly weird dog dragon thing off Neverending Story, Falcor. Feel free to commission something similar, don’t forget I am as poor as a church mouse, and a small donation would allow me to buy some cabbage to flavour my thin broth…

Johnny Loveheart Sez…

“Why not buy a 1-hour drawing for your loved one in time for Valentine’s Day?”

Good Idea Johnny! Click here, tell me what you want in the next week or so and make the most romantic gesture since Pierre Curie gave Marie Curie a glow-in-the-dark uranium loveheart…

COMPETITION TIME- win a drawing! also, please buy some products….

Hello friends and pig lovers! Hope you are well, happy new year and all that.

I left my office job yesterday, which means i am now officially a full-time artist. Easy. The only trouble is I need to actually make some money in order to not die of starvation or humiliation. That sounds awful, what, i hear you ask, can I do to help? Well dear friends, charity begins at home, every little helps etc etc so if you have enjoyed my comics or drawings in the past, why not buy another comic or commission some artwork off me?

Specifically, I’ll do you a sweet 1-hour drawing for £2o, anything you like (within reason and the law) what about that? George Orwell riding a flamingo? Easy! Some cartoon character that you like fighting another one? You got it! Drawing fast is one of the skills in my portfolio, why not take advantage? Now, I realise that i don’t necessarily have any examples to show as i have just thought of it, so to demonstrate my capabilities i’m willing to throw it open to the floor/ internet; suggest a subject to me, leave a comment here, email banalpig@googlemail.com or tweet @banalpig by 6pm on saturday evening (edit: i’ve extended the deadline a bit) and the idea i like best will WIN THAT DRAWING! Gravy!

Watch this space for even more requests for money…

unemployed etc

what’s on friends? i’m in leeds now, looking for a job to pay the bills (gizza job), playing househusband and pottering about, but managing to get a bit of drawing in. here’s a preview from a contribution to an anthology i’m working on:

i cant really give much more away about this at this stage, but all will be revealed one day. i’m also doing a new “interactive” untitled cat strip, and a new covered cover and the second part of two intelligent men climb cat mountain for cheap zine. the first part is in the current issue (issue 9), available from here, so buy it why not? i’m also thinking about future projects and if i can start to make money from art (lol!), and i’ve got an extremely runny nose and a headache.
